【作家メッセージ】
私がレザークラフトを始めたのは、職場でライフプラン
研修を受けた時です。退職後の自分は何をしてるのだろうか。
何かをしなければ。そんな時、カルチャーセンターで気軽にはじめられそうなレザークラフト教室を受講することにしました。
あれから２０年余り。美術や工芸の基礎を学んだ事はありませんが教室の先生や仲間たちと、ただ楽しく作品を作ってきました。
カービングの小物作りから始まり、いろんな技法を学び数年後には工芸展に出展する大きな作品にも挑戦しました。
今では大きな作品よりも日常で使えるもの、自分が楽しく感じられる身近なものが多くなっています。
最近、マーブル染を始めました。染料を入れるバットが小さいため大きな作品は作れませんが、たった一度限りの模様を楽しんでいます。
彫る、編む、染める・・・いろんな姿に変身できる革、無限の可能性を秘めた革。
なかなか思うようにならないけれど、自分だけの、世界に一つだけの手作りって素敵だと思いませんか。

【Artist’s Message】
I started doing leather crafts when I took a life planning course at work. I wondered what I would be doing after I retired.
I had to do something. At that time, I decided to take a casual leather craft class at the cultural center.
It has been more than 20 years since then. I have never studied the basics of arts and crafts, but I have enjoyed creating works of art with the class teacher and my friends.
I started by making small carving items, learned various techniques, and after a few years, I tried my hand at making large pieces to be displayed at craft exhibitions.
Now, rather than large pieces, I tend to make everyday objects that I can use in my daily life and that I find enjoyable and familiar.
Recently, I started marble dyeing. Although I cannot make large pieces because the vat that holds the dye is too small, I enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime patterns.
Carving, weaving, dyeing… Leather that can transform into various forms and has infinite possibilities.
It’s not always easy to make things the way you want them to be, but don’t you think it’s wonderful to make your own, one-of-a-kind handmade items?
